EEG Nocne
Overnight EEG – what it involves
An overnight EEG records the child’s bioelectrical brain activity during natural sleep. It is non-invasive and painless, allowing us to capture changes that appear mainly at night. Importantly, we conduct the test in a private room with a bathroom, and a parent has a comfortable place to sleep included in the price. Thanks to video EEG, we can more easily correlate brainwave recordings with the child’s behavior.
In the evening, we place a soft cap with electrodes. The electrodes only record the signal – they do not transmit electricity – which allows the child to fall asleep and breathe peacefully. Throughout the night, the EEG recorders and video camera work continuously. The parent remains by the child’s side, while we explain each step. In the morning, we remove the electrodes and end the recording so the material can be analyzed.

Duration
The recording lasts the entire night. This provides long, representative material, which increases the reliability of the results and facilitates diagnostic decisions.
How to prepare your child for the test?
Wash your child’s hair on the day of the test; do not use conditioner, hairspray, or gel.
Give a light dinner; avoid excess sugar.
Pack pajamas, a toothbrush, a favorite toy, and a small breakfast for the morning.
Prepare a list of medications and medical documentation; do not discontinue any medication without your doctor’s advice.
If your child has an infection or feels unwell, contact us – we will arrange a new appointment together.
With this preparation, the night usually goes more smoothly, and the recording is easier to interpret.
Interpretation of results
The overnight EEG recording is available immediately after the test. A specialist then analyzes the material and prepares a clear report with practical recommendations.
Overnight EEG results – when and in what form
The report is provided after the video analysis. You will receive it in an easy-to-understand format, and if needed, we will explain the next steps so you know what to do next.
