Daytime EEG
Daytime EEG – what it involves
A daytime EEG records the child’s natural bioelectrical brain activity. It is non-invasive and painless, which makes it useful in diagnosing seizures, sleep difficulties, headaches, and concentration problems. Importantly, we use modern equipment and video EEG, which helps to better correlate brainwave recordings with the child’s behavior. As a result, the doctor receives a more complete picture of the situation.
What does the test look like?
First, we place a soft cap with electrodes on the child’s head. The electrodes only record signals – they do not transmit electricity – so the child can breathe calmly, sit, or lie down. Throughout the visit, you remain by your child’s side, and we explain each step. If needed, we perform standard activation procedures, such as photic stimulation or breathing exercises. This makes the recording more reliable and helps to easily identify any artifacts in the video image.

Duration
A daytime EEG usually lasts 30–60 minutes. If we need a longer recording, we extend the session to ensure the results are reliable. This way, there is no need to return for an additional test.
How to prepare your child for the test?
Wash your child’s hair on the day of the test; do not use conditioner, hairspray, or gel.
Give a light meal; avoid fasting.
Ensure proper rest; bring a favorite toy or book.
Prepare a list of medications and medical documents; do not discontinue any medication without consulting the doctor.
If your child has an infection or feels unwell, contact us – we will arrange a new appointment together.
Interpretation of results
After a daytime EEG test, the results are carefully analyzed and thoroughly described by a specialist. Each patient receives a detailed and clear report, containing essential diagnostic information that forms the basis for further therapeutic or diagnostic steps.
Daytime EEG results – when and in what form
The EEG recording is available immediately after the test. We then prepare a clear report with the most important conclusions and recommendations for further diagnosis. Moreover, if symptoms occur mainly at night, it may also be worth considering an overnight EEG.
