What is the Epilepsy Panel?
The Epilepsy Panel is a set of tests that support the diagnosis of epilepsy. At our clinic in Warsaw, we collect a blood or saliva sample and then send the material to a genetic laboratory. This ensures the process runs smoothly and provides you with clear information on how to proceed with further diagnostics.
How is the sample collected at the clinic?
First, you schedule an appointment. On the day of the visit, we carry out a short qualification and explain each step of the process. Then, in comfortable conditions, we collect the sample, complete the documentation, properly package the material, and arrange its shipment to the laboratory, where the analysis is performed (including next-generation sequencing – NGS).
How does the collection work?
The sampling takes only a few minutes and is done in the presence of a parent or guardian, if needed. For the analysis, we use either blood or saliva – the choice usually depends on the doctor’s recommendations. The laboratory then examines the material for changes that may underlie epileptic seizures.
Turnaround time
The collection itself is brief. Results usually become available within a few weeks, but the maximum timeframe is up to 60 business days. As soon as the report is ready, we will inform you about collection options. If you wish, we can also keep you updated on the analysis stage.
How to prepare for the test?
No special dietary preparation is required. On the day of the test, make sure to be well-rested and hydrated. In addition, inform us about all medications and other therapies – this will make the interpretation of results easier. If you have results from previous tests, bring them along; this will help shorten the time needed to compile all the necessary information.
Results
The laboratory report contains the test result. Clinical interpretation may be performed during a separate medical consultation.
