FRAT™️ – Information for Parents
Purpose of the test
FRAT™️ is a patented diagnostic blood test that detects antibodies against folate receptor alpha (FRa). The test helps assess a child’s neurological condition, especially when developmental disorders such as autism are suspected. Confirming the presence of these antibodies may indicate problems with the proper transport of folate to the brain.
How the test is performed
FRAT™️ involves a standard blood draw from the child, which is then analyzed in a CLIA-certified laboratory. The procedure is quick, simple, and safe, and the child may remain with a parent during the sample collection.

Duration of the test
The blood draw itself takes only a few minutes.
How to prepare your child for the test?
- Supplements containing folic acid, folinic acid, or active forms of folate (5-MTHF) should be discontinued 48 hours before the blood draw.
- Pay attention to the folate content in your child’s diet, especially in infant formul
- If your child is undergoing immunoglobulin therapy, the FRAT test should be performed no earlier than 2–3 months after the last immunoglobulin administration.
Interpretation of results
After the FRAT™️ test, parents receive a detailed report with an interpretation regarding the presence of antibodies against folate receptor alpha. The report includes an explanation of the possible impact of the results on the child’s neurological development, as well as recommendations for further diagnostic or therapeutic steps.
When will I receive the results?
Within 60 business days.
