What is the Cunningham Panel?
Cunningham Panel (Autoimmune Brain Panel) is a specialized blood test that supports the diagnosis of PANS/PANDAS syndromes and other disorders with a possible autoimmune background. By assessing specific autoantibodies and CaMKII activity, the doctor receives additional data that help plan further management.
Cunningham Panel – how is the sample collected?
First, you schedule an appointment. Then, during a short qualification process, we explain each step of the test and answer your questions. After that, in comfortable conditions, we collect a blood sample, complete the necessary documentation, properly package the material, and send it to a cooperating immunological laboratory.
What does the test involve?
The analysis includes the assessment of selected autoantibodies and a test of CaMKII kinase activity. The panel measures, among others:
Antibodies against dopamine receptors D1 and D2
Antibodies against lysoganglioside-GM1
Antibodies against tubulin
CaMKII activity
This set of markers is designed to detect autoimmune activation, which may affect neurological and psychiatric functions.
Duration of the test
The blood draw itself takes just a few minutes. Results are usually ready within a few weeks, but the maximum timeframe is up to 60 business days. Once the report is available, we will inform you about the collection options.
How to prepare your child for the test?
No special dietary preparation is required. On the day of the visit, it is important to ensure your child is well-rested and hydrated. If your child has recently undergone immunoglobulin therapy, the test should be performed no earlier than 3 months after the treatment ends. Additionally, inform the staff about all current medications and any recent infections.
Interpretation of results
The Autoimmune Brain Panel provides detailed information about the presence of autoimmune antibodies and their potential impact on a child’s neurological and psychiatric functions. Parents receive a full report of the results along with an interpretation and recommendations for further diagnostic and therapeutic steps.
